National Voice of Mauritius: All You Want to Know About Its Formation

“We are not fond of getting into politics. If the present government enacts our demands, then we do not need to enter politics or even establish this pressure group. However, if the government does not do this, then we will do everything that is needed to change this corrupt system so that Mauritius can change for the better.” – The Team, National Voice of Mauritius (NVM)

Since the past two decades, major Mauritian political parties have been involved in corruption, and this has made us all realise that we cannot expect any political party to work for a corruption-free Mauritius.

For several years we have been putting our hope in all kinds of alliances and restructuration of existing governments, political parties and public figures. We kept on waiting for real development but nothing happened in the benefit of the public. What we saw in the last two decades are self-interested politicians who found every way to corrupt the system, and to fool the people of this country.

Fed up with the whole system, we realise now that putting our hope on these people, and begging them, will not work. It’s high time for the whole political system of the Government to face a complete overhaul so that the key of the system rests only with the public. We are not planning to go for general elections and enjoy the power, but to tear down the power conclaves and pass on the power directly to public.

The Dream of Ancestors

Numerous leaders, including Dr Manilall, Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, Abdul Razack Mohamed, Renganaden Seeneevassen, Sookdeo Bissoondoyal, Gaetan Duval and Basdeo Bissoondoyal have worked towards making the country free from the British rule. But did their effort go in vain when we assess the country’s situation today? They envisaged a Mauritius that is described in the preamble of our Constitution.

Fundamental RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS of the individual.

Protection of right to life, of right to PERSONAL LIBERTY, from SLAVERY and forced labour, from INHUMAN TREATMENT, from deprivation of property, of PRIVACY of home and other property, of freedom of CONSCIENCE, of freedom of EXPRESSION, of freedom of assembly and association, of freedom to establish schools, of freedom of MOVEMENT, and from DISCRIMINATION.

This preamble depicts our dream, the dream of ordinary Mauritians.

This is a dream of democracy, social justice and of sovereign Mauritius. The preamble of the Constitution promises a just society. It is a promise of Liberty, Equality and Brotherhood.

The Unfulfilled Dream of Mauritius

Even 48 years after Independence, Mauritius of today is contrary to what was imagined. Why? Because elected politicians have ruined the country with bad decision-making.

National Voice of Mauritius (NVM) wants to totally upturn the system.

We Have to Change the Political System

Politics is a sacred word. Politics is for serving the nation and society. We believe that politics without values and principles are dangerous for society and the nation. Today, politics means crime and corruption. Money from Power and Power by using Money is the foundation of modern politics.

This has to change. Politics has to connect again with social service and national pride. That will be the aim of National Voice of Mauritius (NVM).

Ever since we announced that we are entering politics, people have been accusing us of being power-hungry. Some well-wishers are also saying this – politics is a dirty mire, a den of corruption. Why do we want to get stuck in this filth?

Today’s corrupt leaders have so soiled the political arena that politics is considered a den of corruption and crime. We have to change this. We have to rid politics of corruption and crime. We have to associate politics with patriotism again, so that good people can enter politics. Good young people will have to enthusiastically take part in this.

Our Programme

NVM would be announcing its full-fledge agenda on its website, which is right now under construction.

The Win or Loss is Yours

The win or loss of this movement will be the win or loss of the people of this nation. If this revolution wins, our nation will win, the people of Mauritius will win and if this revolution loses, the nation will lose, the people of Mauritius will lose.

If you think that the Labour Party, MSM, MMM or PMSD can give a future to this country, do vote for them. If you think that these parties or any other party can rid our country of corruption, then please vote for them. However, if you feel that all parties are similar to each other and cannot give our nation a bright future, then you must participate in this revolution.

If the nation loses this time, the next opportunity will perhaps come in decades. The youth of this nation must participate in this political revolution. They must be prepared for sacrifice. We will have to achieve a Mauritius that every Mauritian dreamed of after gaining independence.

We are not fond of getting into politics. If the present government enacts our demands, then we do not need to enter politics or even establish this pressure group. However, if the government does not do this, then we will do everything that is needed to change this corrupt system so that Mauritius can change for the better.
